Thinking Out of the Box:
Finding Your Own Truth
Many people live their life believing that things
make them happy. They believe that possessions, places, and
people are parts of a puzzle to create one’s happiness. I
strongly disagree. I believe that happiness is within us
and is always there. It is an endless energy of
blissfulness, looking for ways to express itself in everything
and all things. Happiness never dies nor weakens. This might
explains how people find happiness, in the midst of known
hardship or the most dismal of situations. Time and time
again, this has been displayed, regardless of a person’s
history. People find happiness in the most unexpected places
and faces. Happiness is the energy of joy and joy is from
within.
We find ways that limit our happiness, restrict our happiness,
and even prevent our happiness. People very often invent
reasons to be sad or angry. “If I don’t have this I will
be miserable”—“if don’t get there, I will be angry”—“if I
don’t have what they have, I will be sad.“
Visualize happiness as a bright light inside us that always
tries to shine, but is constantly covered by a multitude of
life’s challenges and obstacles. We look for happiness in all
the wrong places. We may even purposely prevent this
light from shining, as if we want to be sad, angry, upset, or
disgusted.
Thinking out of the box is much like happiness in the way that
it begins from within. It is the energy of creativity and
your creativity is from within you. It looks to shine its
light in your life, guiding you towards your full potential.
Thinking out of the box is a beacon for your greatness.
People too often find ways to limit, restrict, and even
purposely prevent thinking out of the box by believing in
standards, categories, and opinions. We must think beyond
these restrictions to find our personal truth and full
potential.
This chapter is designed to assist you in thinking beyond
limitations, opinions, and standards. Building wealth is
easier when you realize that your thoughts and abilities in
life are not restricted by anything or anybody—no opinions,
standards, or set record have control over your abilities or
thoughts. This chapter is designed to prevent you from
looking for your answers in the wrong places and to help you
get out of your own way, when necessary.
Thinking out of the box is a claim that many people will label
themselves. It is like a social medal of honor; the right
thing to say. But what does thinking out of the box really
mean and is it a good thing?
The most successful companies in the world will agree that
innovation is one of the greatest qualities a leader can
have. Innovation is the ability to make things better by
doing something new and different, or by challenging the
popular standards or opinions. Thinking out of the box means
to think beyond. It is a thorough challenge of one’s
creativity to improve something.
As human beings we instinctively look to make thing better,
even if it a simple adjustment of a chair that we are to sit.
We naturally want to make our circumstances better.
“We are limited not by our abilities, but by
our vision.”
Question for You to Consider:
1.
If you could do anything completely new and different
to make the world better, what would it be?
Consider this question as you read this book.
Thinking out of the box is to envision without rules or
limitations, to imagine endless possibilities, making your
ideas infinite. Your thinking is not restricted to what
everybody else thinks, but to seek a more satisfying
resolution. Once you have the new idea, ask yourself this
important question: How do I make it work?
This question test your resourcefulness, which is further
discussed in this book.
For everything, you may enjoy, whether it is television,
driving, dancing, and even food, someone thought outside of
the box to create it. In 1899 Charles H. Duell was the
director of the U.S. Patent Office, and made this bold
statement, "Everything that can be invented has been
invented.” Because of Duell’s prominent position, many
people believed him. This was his strong opinion. That was
in 1899. How many inventions do you think were invented since
he voiced this opinion? Thousands! That opinion was
challenged—proven wrong and is still being proved wrong
today.
